LACA Purchases Building for $1

The purchase of the "Old Leech Homestead" building, more recently known as the Masonic Lodge Building, was finalized on August 23, 2010. In addition to the dollar paid to transfer ownership to LACA, a loan from an interested party allowed LACA to pay the closing costs of $3,330.60.

A "Stayed Tax Sales" agreement was reached with all of the taxing bodies. This allows LACA to make $100.00 a month payments to the Armstrong County Tax Claims Bureau until the back taxes incurred by the Masons are paid in full.

We are happy to announce that the building known by m any as the Masonic Hall has been saved from demolition and is now owned by the Leechburg Area Community Association (aka L.A.C.A.) The building was the original home of David Leech, the founder of Leechburg, and was constructed around 1830. Until recently, the building has been occupied by the Masonic Lodge where they have held meetings since the early 1900’s.

An affordable payment plan has been worked out with the courts and the Leechburg Area Community Association to pay the back taxes, of around $17,000, that are due on the building. The building itself has many vast spaces that can be used to house several new businesses or ventures. Each business will bring needed funds to the borough, opportunities for our existing businesses here in town, and surrounding communities, along with jobs. The entire renovation of the building, and the many businesses it will house, is a vision we know will come true.

Extensive renovations are needed and we are asking for your help. Of course, your donation is tax deductible to you, or your business, and becomes the property of the Leechburg Area Community Association. The fund raising committee would like to thank you and ask that you be as generous as possible.
